Turn Off or Turn On Read Receipts
Wow it’s been a while since I posted. I have to say I’ve been busy with a ton of other stuff but I think I have some helpful post in the next few weeks. And to start off I’ll tell you how you can change how you handle read receipts, also know as return receipts.
Read receipts are a great tool help users when it comes to tracking e-mail. But too much of a good thing is, well not a good thing. I even know a few people to request return receipts with every e-mail they send. This, at least to me, is an annoyance. So I have tuned off return receipts.
While turning off read receipts works just fine for me it may not be what you want to do. So I’ll show you what you need to do to change your Outlook read receipts settings.
First, you need to open Outlook. Once your have Oulook open you need to open your Outlook options menu.

Once you have the Outlook menu open you should then select the Preferences Tab and click the E-Mail Options button.

The e-mail options screen looks confusing but what we need is not there. We still need to click one more button. You’ll now need to click on the Tracking Button. This will take us to the screen where we can change option for out read receipts. So Click the Tracking Button.

Ok finally we are here. The Outlook email tracking area. Here is where we can change how we handle read receipts.

On the bottom half of the Tracking Options menu there are three options. Select the option which best fits your needs.
- Always send a response - selecting this will send a read receipt to the sender with out asking you when you read the e-mail.
- Never send a response - select this opting and you will never send a return receipt when a sender requests a receipt.
- Ask me before sending a response - Selecting this will give you the annoying dialog box asking you if you would like to send receipt indicating you have read the senders message.
Note: If you select options one or two you will never be ask if you want to send a receipt or not. Outlook will do what you selected that is it will send a receipt or it will not.
Well there it is, a simple Outlook setting that just might make you day a little easier once you have it configured to your needs. As always feel free to comment or ask questions in the comments section below.
Thankyou
