Configure Outlook for IMAP

Outlook can send and receive e-mail from various types of e-mail server.  If you need to have Outlook 2003 check e-mail accounts on an IMAP server just follow the steps here.

To configure Microsoft Outlook to use IMAP Do the following:

  1. Launch Outlook from the Programs menu.
    • Start -> Program files -> Microsoft Office -> Microsoft Office Outlook


  2. Open the email accounts wizard by selecting the Tools menu and E-mail Accounts.
  3. In the email account screen, under the E-mail heading select Add a new email account. Now choose Next.
  4. On the Server Types screen, select IMAP and choose Next.
  5. The “Internet E-mail Settings (IMAP)” screen asks for the following information:
    • Your name : Your name as you would like it to appear on email messages (ex. Tech Guy) .
    • Email address : Your email address (ex. username@domain.com ).
    • Incoming mail server(IMAP) : imap.yourdomain.com
    • Outgoing mail server(SMTP) : smtp.yourdomin.copm
    • User name Username (ex. Username). Fill that field in with your correct username.
    • If desired, fill in the password field with the password for your e-mail account and check the Remember Password box.


  6. Step 6 through 10 may or may not be required depending on your network or mail server setting. Check with your network administrator.
    Select the More settings button on the lower right side of the window.
  7. A window named “Internet Email Settings” should appear. Select the Advanced tab.
  8. On this tab, under the “Server Port Numbers” heading, you will see ” Incoming server(IMAP) “. Directly below this is a checkbox labeled ” This server requires an encrypted connection(SSL) . Place a check in this box. You may notice that the port number above changes from 143 to 993. This is to be expected .Choose OK to save this setting and close this window.
  9. Choose Next and Finish to complete the setup of this account.
  10. You will now see “imap.yourdomain.com” on the left column of Outlook which contains the mailboxes for your new account.

Ok I have been to the Fios Support site a few times and every time it seems as if the change the location where they give out the toll free support number. So here it is 888-553-1555.  That number will take you to Verizon fios tech support.  I relly hope this helps.
